Well, lots of 'merican V8's have been installed in the rear of a 911 - the light Chev v8 you describe sounds ideal.  Sounds like it would be a sweet marriage...

Actually, the Small Block Chevy was ~550lbs.

It's the new LS series that weighs in around 400lbs.
