I have driven one on the. Road and at Silverstone. Basically a go cart. Like an 
AC Cobra incredibly uncomfortable with wind pressure and noise over 40 mph. Not 
even remotely a long distance car unless you wear a helmet. An Elise is far 
more civilised. Used Caterhams are pretty cheap and readily available here. 
Could you import a used one to the USA even if in parts to avoid the rules? 
Look on pistonheads and eBay.co.uk ...

Short term track car and wonderful for point and shoot events. A Sunday drive 
gets pretty tiring but then my 6foot so if you are short maybe you fit better 
but the lack of a proper screen and side windows really will wear you down if 
the sun burn and wind burn doesn't !
