Sorry your argument doesn't hold up
Carb cars by design are just more prone to fires
Period
Whether they be Ferrari or US cars
Even carbureted airplane engines catch fire
As an A&P mechanic and having worked on a plethora of engines I speak from experience
The mere fact the a carburetor float can stick and have fuel flood the intake speaks volumes
Add ignition and the rest is history
Read FIRE!
Fuel injection is smarter, economically and safer

Other than the engine being behind the driver making leaking gas smells less evident than a front engine car,  I don't see the carbed 308 any more prone to engine fires than any other carbed car.  The CIS injected cars with brittle injection lines are a more likely candidate for an engine fire.

I don't know anybody here in the UK who would say maintenance on an Esprit is cheap! Than again a full cambelt service on a 328 here is 800 - 1200.00 pounds for quality work and you guys pay HOW Much in the USA for the same?
