One of -rick’s projects “'08 Cayman - it will be due its annual service in January. The dealer does that.”

Picture this – in 2004 we bought a Cayenne.  For the previous 15 years I trusted, with confidence Matthias, a German Meister certified technician, with our older (pre- OBD II) Porsches at his own shop.  The Cayenne came up on an oil change mileage so of course I went to Matthias.  Hmmmm, nice car – I don’t touch anything past 1995 (OBDII’s birthday).  Huh??  Not even for an oil change?  Nope – not even for an oil change.  I know my limits.  Take it to the dealer.

OBD II, to the Hoi Polli would seem to ‘tell’ the technician EVERYTHING wrong with the car.  Not so alimony breath.  It only reports a situation at a time slice.  Not even Steven Hawking could diagnose the “why” of a problem.  What?  Yeah – OBD II is very much like an old oral thermometer with its line of mercury to denote the patients temperature.  Shove it in the patient (either end will do) and it reports a temperature of 104.  Now facing the shover inner is “Why?”

$20,000 worth of new equipment and the knowledge to fumble about an OBD II computerized car can be a lot of fun.  Don’t believe me?  Leave you gas cap loose on a new car - - - within two “trips” the check engine light is glowing – is it a faulty cam $en$sor? Or what?

Yeah -rick, yer right – hate your grand kid?  Give them a 25 year old 458.  BUWHAHAHAhahahahahah
