They could be just fine until about 40-50k miles. After that, owners seem to run for the hills. A good metric for a regular car's desirability is resale value. Here, the Germans are still out performing everyone. In a really bad way... At least Benz has recently realized that their engineering departments cannot keep up with the rest of the world. They have started buying or copying technology directly from other manufacturers. So, my criticism may be short lived as soon as they start implementing more outside solutions into their cars. They should've started about 25 yrs ago before things started going bad.
