I’ll have to look into my late-father’s stuff and see if he had any saved. With a career spent working with chemicals, he had saved a lot of neat stuff (I remember as a kid getting my hands on a vial of Gallium he had. It was quite cool to see metal melting in the palm of my hand... Probably didn’t do me any good though. Oh well). Although there must be some lead solder still available. We use lead pipe dope exclusively on all of our petroleum threaded pipe connections at work and it can be easily obtained at our suppliers. Simply put, it works the best (much like many other “dangerous” substances). Peter Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Rick Moseley <ramosel [at] pacbell.net>

Any time I change components I flood, wick and re-solder with leaded solder. But, I do use a fume extractor on my workbench!
Erik’s tin whiskers and boundary embrittlement are just 2 of the issues exacerbated by removing Pb from solder. Thank you Nanny state!! I’m
RoHS electronics are only durable when switched off and sitting on a shelf in a cool environment.
So just a quick stab at it... Should we go back to using lead in all electronics? Peter Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Ferrari <ferrari-bounces+dino308gt4=hotmail.com [at] ferrarilist.com>
