I still have about half a 1lb box (roll) of Ersin multicore 60/40 solder from 60 years ago when, as a teen I built Dynaco hifi amps, preamps and tuners.  IIRC it cost around $5. for a 1lb. box then. In its day Ersin was the go to brand.

Just checked one of the places I shop at. They now sell non-lead
solder in addition to their lead alloy solders, but oh boy is it
expensive:

Although there must be some lead solder still available.

I'm a bit puzzled. I don't have any problem at all getting the old
fashioned lead/tin solder. 60/40 or 63/37.

For example, it's right at the top of Radio Shack's home page. And
any of the electrical supply stores I occasionally shop at have it.
Other than higher temp silver solder, it's all they have.

I occasionally tinker with model trains, all the suppliers sell it.

Local hardware stores, even the hardware sections of the big box stores.

Am I mis-interpreting something?

Hans.
