I don’t think Dennis has had a crash of any significance in the car. He did have a significant engine fire last year, and of course that came with an “off”
as he abandoned the car. Safety crews did a good job and so the damage was limited to the motor, surrounding accessories and the bodywork above. He’s had it rebuilt and it’s circuit worthy again, although I don’t think he’s had an opportunity to run it this
year between COVID, travel and his oldest daughter starting out on the track. I think your pricing for the C7 is way high. I bought my 2015 Z06 30 months ago for $68k. That was a solid deal at the time for a 4,000 mile car. A Grand Sport
or Stingray should be a significant discount off that, and there’s COVID bargains to be had now if you’re not too picky about colors and such. -- charles From: Ferrari [mailto:ferrari-bounces+charles=carolinasound.com [at] ferrarilist.com]
On Behalf Of Mark Thanks for the heads up Scottie, sure wish Dennis was still in the group to give some feedback... And thanks for all the suggestions, I ran a quick ballpark internet performance and cost survey, with these rough results. Of course it has nothing to do with the handling of the vehicle with just the power to weight ratio and acquisition
cost... Vehicle: bhp/T/$ Ferrari308 134 $$$lots Miata 152. $15k Boxster 197. $35k Cayman 207. $50k Corvette C7 405. $65k Radical SR3 406. $25k food for thought... Not quite sure where I'm headed but it seems like it'll be a fun time.... I agree about the cheap car. For straight up fun, Miata. Easy to own, cheap to repair and the SPECMiata class SCCA has a giant schedule and always plenty of competition.
Something bad happened to Dennis in the Radical. Don’t remember if it was failure or crash, but the car was smashed. Dennis was bruised but otherwise fine. Until then, everything Dennis had posted about the car was praise. Scottie

brutal on the body to drive. Some tracks require arm straps, which makes it difficult to give point bys (although there may not be many of those once you get to know the car J). I don’t know your skill level or history, but most instructors and programs say that you’ll learn a lot more a lot more quickly by buying a car that has lower
power and fewer driver’s aids – Miata, E36 M3, Boxster/Cayman. When I started to get into track events seriously I started shopping for a 987.2 Cayman. It got some modifications that make it more track appropriate versus the earlier 987. Cheap to buy and to
run. Some tracks have restrictions against convertibles that don’t have hardtops or cages, which is why it makes more sense than a Boxster. Anything that gets you on the track is a good choice! Good luck. -- charles From: Ferrari
