I’ve been hesitant to opine.

So many trips to the stewards this year.  Agreed sometimes, disagreed others.

I suppose it is like any other sport, sometimes the close ones go your way, sometimes not - evens out in the end, maybe?

Letting Hammy run away at the beginning when he blew the corner was BS, but it was racing.

I get what Massi was trying to do with the call he made - at least end the season racing.

I also see how that screwed Hamilton.

In the end his choice he has disobeyed or disregarded Toto’s orders before.

Then again, Toto usually gets strategy pretty right.

It was a calculated risk -

if they never went green, they won.

If they went green, but with all the traffic - 5 cars - in between, they won.

I doubt Toto thought that they’d get down to 1.5 laps left and Massi would figure out a way to turn it into a one lap sprint.

FWIW, I liked Hamilton the kid.  20-something Hamilton was a dick.  I have been starting to like him again.

I thought he behaved like a champion at the trophies.

FAR MORE IMPORTANT - a solid third in the race, and third overall in the Teams.   Not a great season, but not bad.

Next year should be interesting.

If Mercedes pulled Hamilton in for tires he would have lost P1 and then if they didn't restart the race he would have lost the race, so there's no way they were going to risk that, they didn't anticipate getting blindsided by Massi.

From my limited knowledge it seems as though he made up his own rule at the end of the race, hard to imagine how that can stand.

Absolutely!  He should have come in for tires.  And, leave it to Hamilton to throw his team under the bus.  He may have been gracious to Max but he still had to blame someone.  Such a victim.

And I still want to know how Mercedes suddenly got so much faster about 4 races ago.  I know they swapped some engine parts but I don't recall them announcing an upgrade.

Then there is the obvious question: Why didn't Mercedes pull Hamilton in on
the Safety Car interval and put on new, probably Soft, tires? When I was
watching the race, my wife came in and said, "Its Over". My reply was, if
there is an accident, anything can happen. You have to play your best game
all the way to the end. It looked like Mercedes thought that they were "home
safe and dry" and stopped pushing. Even Hamilton questioned the tire tactics
(strategy is an often misused word).
