I think they didn't stop Hamilton because if they did, he would have come out behind Max who probably wouldn't have stopped to GAIN track position, and Mercedes made it clear they didn't want to lose track position. Hamilton said over the radio he thought it was risky. He was right. -----Original Message----- From: Ferrari [mailto:ferrari-bounces+ferrarilist=pless.com.au [at] ferrarilist.com] On Behalf Of georgedodson [at] comcast.net Sent: Wednesday, 15 December 2021 5:46 AM To: Peter Pless Cc: The FerrariList Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Season Ender Then there is the obvious question: Why didn't Mercedes pull Hamilton in on the Safety Car interval and put on new, probably Soft, tires? When I was watching the race, my wife came in and said, "Its Over". My reply was, if there is an accident, anything can happen. You have to play your best game all the way to the end. It looked like Mercedes thought that they were "home safe and dry" and stopped pushing. Even Hamilton questioned the tire tactics (strategy is an often misused word).
