It really struck me as more of a money maker for Ferrari than anything - not
the cost of the certification so much as the work they intend to gain from
it. If they are keeping all the old tooling around, and stashes of old
parts, and restoration demand is not making expedient use of them, let's
create the demand by reminding well heeled owners why their car isn't quite
good enough.
I think for many who have enough interest to proceed with the inspection, the stigma of black marks on the inspection is intended to spur them to have new parts cast or do whatever else the car needs to become perfect (even if it's only 5/50 perfect). I'm sure Ferrari's pricing on custom re-cast parts would make Kerkorian barf up his spleen...

It will offer uneducated and impatient buyers piece of mind. It's a sign of changing times I guess...why do the work, when someone else will do it for you?
I'd rather research a car and be involved with the inspection personally and bank the $$$ for some maintenance and/or mods.
Are we, as a society, getting dumber?

WASTE OF MONEY.
Spend the money on gas and major services.
But everyone has different opinions. ;-)
I guess I'd do it for a 98 point+ 1960s GTO or an old school Modial 4 cylinder racer or something but for any of the 1970+ cars I don't personally think it would make a difference in selling/buying price and the guys with the pre 1960s racers can go ahead and run their cars through this inspection for grins and the cost of it is a rounding error on their dinner tab when they take a group of folks out at the 21 Club in NY or Arpège in Paris or wherever folks think is trendy and expensive today.
