What I don't get is piece of mind as to what? What is to keep someone from having their rare 308 "certified" and then going home and removing original bits and pieces before selling it? You have the cert to show the "provenance" of the car, but it doesn't mean the car is in the same condition 1 week down the road What if it is wrecked and repainted after the provenance? Do you have to ge another cert for $3K?

ORrrrrr - Classiche is just another product.
Not too long ago, the little old car maker in Marenello sat down with a bunch of folks and asked - how can we make more money? The answer was - sell logo stickers and coffee cups and shirts and hats and jackets - and forbid everyone else. Not to long after that, the income stream from that adventure outstripped the vehicle sales income.
Actually, they took a lesson from the little old car firm in Stuttgart with the other prancing horse who came to the conclusion their logo could, should, maybe, might, make some extra money. Lo and behold - anything aftermarket with the logo PORSCHE dried up UNLESS it had the factory blessing and lo and behold they made/are making a bundle. Did you know that Ferrari now forbids the dealership network to sell certain goodies UNLESS they have purchased the proper shelving? Yeah, the steel stuff to put the goodies on. My my.
As I read about the Ferrari Classiche division - they can either rebuild your car to factory specs AND/or certify your car as it now is to what it really is. Even some chatter that to compete in big name shows thou shalt have said (trumpets braying) official Certificate. Oh goody - another $3,000 just so I can show at Pebble.
But is it because people are lazy and uneducated or do they really know the questions to ask? Twenty years ago, "chicken coupe" Gull Wings, 212 Inters and flogged race cars with pop riveted flares were resurrected but the downside was showing up at a concours with two cars and the same serial number. heh heh
So is it lazy and dumb or does society simply demand more - ?
At one time Tiffany & Co would simply cert their diamonds as to caret weight and cut and clarity and color was defined as River, Double River or Triple River (what ever that means today) - - and of course their name on the receipt. That was enough. Now they supply a GIA diamond grading report along with their personal cert in a nice leather binder. Along with their nifty robins egg blue lunch bag.
So again - is it laziness or are their just better counterfeiters out there and since no one is an expert in everything, the public is simply scared and more demanding. That's education enough. We are not as gullible.
Just some thoughts - I could be wrong.

(Excuse me please while I go hang my Van Gogh I got at a Princess Cruise auction for $9,000 - they said it as real and gave me their cert of authentication - and who need provenance any way - heh heh)
