Yes - "cherished" numbers sell at a big premium here. You can't just choose what you have. Once they are issued that's it. And you can buy and sell them. In fact the licensing authority auction new "cherished" registraions.

I believe they were made for 3 years before the "M" came out but regardless cars here are judged by the year of their first registration and not the year of manufacturer so a '95 can could actually be a '94 model year but first registured in '95. Thus the dealer was telling me it was a "K" plate car.
