Steve,

I'm not sure how they caught me since I always went through someone else. I'll do it myself this time and hopefully fare better. Sometime I think Canada = Russia with better neighbours.

You would think DirecTV would turn a blind eye and be happy with the extra revenue. In my neighbourhood every fourth dish is a DirecTV dish. Everyone has to re-subscribe once in a while, we are used to it. I predict many won't re-subscribe if they now lose DirecTivo. Perhaps that's what DirecTV wants.

Best regards,

Jason

I agree Tivo is cool.

My existing DirecTivo was setup and then moved locations. It worked wonderfully for a long time. Since I'm a bad boy, went against the TOS and moved it, the DirecTV account is being shut down. Of course all the serial numbers on the DirecTivo unit are now bummed for future use.

Normally I would just order another install and move it - but no Tivo? Yuck. So it looks like I can order a receiver only, add on a standalone Tivo, and be OK.

I will really miss the dual tuners. Why can't this stuff go gloabal? Content rights blah.

I find that the DirectTivo is much easier to use than the direct TV DVR.
I'm looking at replacing both my direct DVR,s with some sort of TIVO
Product.
FWIW, YMMV.

Jason:

I think Jim was referring to the DirecTiVo (joint venture between TiVo and
DirecTV) not the DirecTV house-brand DVR (which does indeed suck).

I buy all my old TiVo stuff on ebay, using BidNip, of course. :)

Jason
The directTV one SUCKS!!! I can't wait to ditch it. The remote is
horrible . If you've had Tivo, then you won't like D,TV. It is difficult
to FWD, rew, and stop it where you want it. Unlike Tivo.

I have a DirecTivo and love it. I want more but DirecTV doesn't send out Tivo's anymore.

Does anyone have a DirecTV HD receiver and an add-on standalone Tivo? Does it work well? Are you forced to watch the chanel that is recording? How is quality?
