I always valued your opinion Jim when you weren't distracted by a skirt. I
have to get you to a bar again to get you to relinquish some of those old
secrets! Your early days are really getting to be the good ole days. So I
guess that filters haven't gotten better since then...

We were testing filters FOR an application on an E36 M3.

Essentially it was what was found out and why we stopped
using any form of "oiled-cotton-gauze" filter - regardless
of any 1E6 mile warranties - that matters.

Those type of filters, while they might flow better when
completely clean vs a STOCK PAPER FILTER, they have much
less filter media area, and thus they "clog" much quicker
and soon flow LESS than a STOCK PAPER FILTER.

Meanwhile they always let thru a bunch more dirt.

This isn't my opinion, nor a test done by another filter maker
with an axe to grind as is oft opined. This is the scientific
data from a professional filtration lab located in the N.E. US
who has one of it's markets as NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS.

Filters to remove dangerous nuclides from coolant loops.

So you might guess they know what they are talking about.

They did me a BIG favor and for employment reasons the actual
company must remain undisclosed.

The intakes I invented, and then co-developed w/ Eurosport
were specifically designed to deal with those issues along
with others more specific to BMW-land.

Executive summary: YMMV, but IMNSHO skip the oiled-gauze filters.

Jim
