Re: of Ferrari's and dresssing well....

Hey Tom - Terri and I picked up a phony Christmas tree a few years back (old age got to our noses I guess - love the smells - hate the allergy headaches) and we found a biggy on post holiday sale. Guy loads the huge box on a dolly and says "hope you have a big van or something." Well, we had the Dodge Mini - but I did tell the guy "yeah, we left the Ferrari and Porsche's at home." He sez, "yeah, good one." heh heh

As far as the Ferrari thing and perception - I kept it quite at work. Sheeeet man, we paid less for our 78 308 GTS than the guy dating our daughter did for his freaking Toyhondat pickup truck with light bar.

Still, we flew under the radar. Perception tho - - - the people I worked with then were a bunch of jealous green eyed snobs - a killer work place.

Yes, perceptions are funny things. When I had my '78 308gt4 ('Mario') and
was looking for work in Arizona, one of the jobs I was "interviewing" for
was a paper route delivery. I was standing on the loading dock with a bunch
of other people, waiting for my "ride" to show up, and I joked "Gee, I'll
bet it would be a bad idea to show up here to deliver on those
(rocky/dusty/bumpy roads) in my Ferrari, huh?" Well, you could just SEE the
tension in the air and the silence, just like that old commercial ..."and
E.F. Hutton says..." and then I said "yeah, like I've got a Ferrari..." and
then everything switched back to the way it was. So, I found out with that
and other circustances, that people expect a certain something when they
meet a Ferrari owner. It's the price you pay for driving something you
love, I guess. Either you care to a certain degree or not, but people will
judge, nontheless.
Just enjoy,

I drive a 1970 2 tone series 1 Silver Shadow.... which is the era I
like...
still chrome bumpers and simple as an axle compared to computer infested
cars of later years... one of the same reasons I wanted the carbed 308
also.. fuel injection to me means "to modern!". lol

I also love the simple lines of the early GTB... I will take a slower
older
less dianamically "good" car just because it looks so right to my eye.

I know what you mean about the impressions people take... I mostly drive a
horrible 25 year old japanese van that has not seen a carwash in years...
I
need it for work every day... and I smile at people in BMW's or Jags that
look down their nose at me in that...

You can never tell what people are really like at a glance.
One chap arould here looks like a total street bum with old clothes, crazy
hair and an old beat up japanese car... he came to me for help one day
when
he was shiffing into his house as he didn't know many people here and he
could not lift some things, I gave hime a hand and a few weeks later was
invited into his shed to see 2 Corvettes and 7 Rolls Royces (from Cloud to
Corniche convertable).

As for what car to arrive in... if I got to do a quote for work in the RR
or
Ferrari people will automatically think it's going to be expensive!
And it's best to trun up to look at buying something in the old van and
not
the RR THATS for sure!

lol

People are funny animals really.

Odd thing is I really enjoy driving my RR at night as then I can relax and
just enjoy the car without other people even knowing what I am driving.
Regards
Gavin
