Wow Norm,
You make me happy we sold our Camry after 2 months of ownership. It only left us stranded once in that time - Battery and Alt died - but when I opened the hood and saw *nothing* I could identify much less work on we sold it and bought a 91 MB diesel with the same mileage. The MB has been perfect except for the stereo which came with a head unit - and a amp and tuner in the trunk. The CD changer also went in the trunk but only 2 changers fit - several Alpine changers and a Becker that no longer can be repaired because part are NLA. but that's another story. ;-)

As far as the MGBs - I put 350k miles on my 66 (regestered as a 67) while using it as my everyday driver for over 20 years. The fuel pump died one day in the late 80s and that was the only time it didn;t get me home.

As far as Ken's assertion that <<<English cars require a great deal of puttering>>> - that part may be somewhat true. But English cars are the kind of machines that I enjoy tinkering with. Noe that I;m quite a bit older probably makes that less true now, but back in the 70s and 80s, I'd *look* for things to do on the weekends. Washing and waxing it was not usually enough somehow, although in a pinch, it would do - if the carbs didn;t need adjusting (which was seldom) or the points didn't need adusting (which was more likely, but easy to do). Not that I didnt enjoy washing/waxing it - there's something special about carressing a beautiful little car with elegant lines.

Of course, at the moment, I have a zillion more things to do - but I always find something else I need to do 1st. After I managed to paint it and reinstall the engine & trans I got stuck on the dash and insruments.

Hmmm... maybe I'll work on it now - nahhhhhhh, I need to finish the EFI on my 911...

Have a nice Sunday ya'll ---

Ken says,"English cars require a great deal of puttering, and are innocent
of
the laws of electricity, but they do a great job of the traditional
wood inside...
Japanese cars - exquisitely assembled, utterly reliable appliances.
Toasters on wheels from the land of 15 mph."

NOT ALWAYS!

There was a time back in the late '80s / early '90s when my daily driver was
an '80 MGB & my wife's a bought-new Toyota Camry. My MGB was 100% reliable,
year-round, 10,000 miles a year. The Camry was the worst car we have ever
owned for reliability, production quality, handling and it was useless in
snow. And, the dealer knew less about what went wrong (which was often)
than I did. After it left us stranded in the middle of nowhere for the 3rd
time, it was traded for a Saab.

We now have 2 German vehicles, 1 Italian & 1 British. And, after our Toyota
experience, we'll never own another Toyota product. And, likely no other
Japanese either.

Norm
