heh heh - good points Ken - so could we add the Citroën Maserati (front drive 
inline transmission then the engine) to the mess bag?  Ever change a fan belt 
on one?  Those in the know tie an extra belt in the fray, somehow, to prevent 
total disassembly of the engine upper end the next time the belt needs 
replacing.

  Only German hubris would permit hanging the engine out past the rear wheels 
(the Strength-Through-Joy-Mobile) or sticking it ahead of the front axle like a 
carrot for a reluctant donkey (the Advantage-Through-Technology-Mobile). Both 
Audi and Porsche piss me off because they work so well despite Newton's Laws. 
Of course it took several generations for arrogant legions of slide-rule 
carrying Deutsche Geeks to get it right, but they would have tried for 100 
years before they ever would admit they were wrong in the first place.
