Maybe The Stable doesn't own the car, maybe it is (and has been) on
consignment with them. They get paid a commission if they find a buyer and
the
seller can still try to find a buyer on his own. That way the seller can be
offering it to buyers and meanwhile The Stable places an ad for it hoping to
get a
buyer for that particular car to get a commission or at least to generate
traffic to their shop to buy something else. Happens a lot, especially with
high value items.

I agree with the feeling that it is an entire waste to buy a car like that
and not drive it. Even if it ever became "collectible" (which it won't
because there just are too many of them), driving the car is infinitely better
for
the long term health of the car than letting it sit and rot. Not to mention
a hell of a lot more fun!

I just can't imagine telling my grandchildren "Boy oh boy, you should have
seen all of the cool cars that I have owned!" Grandchildren "Wow, grandpa,
that sounds great! They must have been fun to drive! What were they like to
drive?" Grandpa, "Er, um, hey have you guys done your homework yet?"

What a waste!

John

Hi Dan,
Thx for the comments - it's been a long time since I placed any ads in R&T
but I think the lead time was at *least* 6 weeks - closer to 8 IIRC. Maybe
R&T has some stock photos for The Stable since they buy at least 2 full
color pages each issue - and silver is a pretty common color. Of course,
the world of electronics has increased the speed of everything - maybe they
have a new procedure in place to allow quicker turnaround of display ads
with photos?

So, if the Stable gave the owner the 155 he wanted they'll make 20k from
it -- not bad. ;-) of course there overhead is probably pretty high.

The timing *does* seem suspicious -
