Thx to Paul and Stephen (so far) - the info you provided is very helpful. I haven't paid much attention to this new technology and without help it can be hard to understand the literature - afterall, the sales lit. will say itcan do everything but dance the Somba ;-)OK - looks like the $13/mo is the only plan offered - I assumed there wasmore there than it was. That's very helpful to know about the recording of stuff from HBO/ Starz, etc on TV - We like to record stuff so we can watch it at our own pace later -never any intertion to steal anything - And we can live without HD -Which reminds me - was reading the Crutchfield catalog - an excellent source of info BTW, and I found this the ultimate in absurdity - They have a table of the types of TV's, LCD, Plasma and rear projection with the pros and cons. Under pro's it listed the Flat Plasma as having "lifelike color that is closest to conventional tube TV's" @!!! Son of a witch! All this money and effort spent converting the nations TVs and their signals and what do weend up with? Something as good as what we've had for 50 years!I can only hope they intended their comment to convey a different situation, but that's exactly what it says. It's probably on the Crutchfield websiteif anyone cares to look - Or maybe I;m the only one who sees it as so ironic -OK, So I can pick a DVR that doesn't record HD but *has* ethernet and/or USBports so I can hook up my laptop.Thx agn for all the help - looks like it's just a matter of finding features and disk size. The unfortunate thing is, unless I buy a DVR on eBay or such I'll be stuck with the DVR that "does it all" - namely it records inHD. ;-) Take Care, Larry T http://youroil.net Carb & Jet Settings: http://members.rennlist.org/oil/ - Oil Testing http://members.rennlist.org/webercarbs/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Bennett" <pbennett [at] macnet.com> To: "Larry Turner" <l02turner [at] comcast.net> Cc: "The FerrariList" <ferrari [at] ferrarilist.com> Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 6:33 PM Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Tivo & DVRHowdy - Getting ready to join the rest of the world and buy a DVR and I'mconsidering springing for a Tivo service also -Ya'll are always so knowledgable about this stuff I thought I'd see whatyou suggest -Tivo has a plan for $12.95/mo or $129/yr - is there any reason to buy amore expensive plan?I've been pricing DVR's also - some come with tivo as part of the package. The lower priced ($149) has a Tivo Series II Dual TunerDigital Recorder w/80 hr cap HD. This will give 80 hours of recording time - whch lookslike enough to me -However, obviousdly there will be some programs I;ll want to save - since it comes with ethernet & USB ports I assume I can download programs intomy computer network? Once in the puter I'm sure I can put it on a DVD.Check out Weaknees.com before committing - they sell boxes. If you go with DirectTV you can only lease the box, not own it, hence not modify it. Know that DVR software lacks some of the good features of TIVO. Don't mix DVR and TIVO in the same sentence....they aren't the same.!! Important - TIVO just announced a contract with DTV to develope an HDTIVO and might be worth the wait.I just upgraded my series I TIVO (160G hd) and just wish it were series IIwith USB... IMHO that's the best system out there if you can live without HD. Re plans...don't know what you are referring to about more expensive plan...I've had the 2 receiver TIVO plan since day 1 and it's as you quote now$13/mo and only more expensive is adding HBO or Stars etc... _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/l02turner%40comcast.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/_________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/rgarven%40gmail.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
