Speaking of designs and style, my 1st inclination is to blame the govt
(always eager to blame Big Brother) ;-) and I think I'd be correct if we
were back in the 70s when we hd such lovely designs as rubber bumpered MGBs
and minimum height bumpers affecting most all other cars. I feared we'd end
up with cars designed via govt edict which IMO gave us the Jelly Bean cars
Doug described.
But lately we've moved away from that - while most cars still look alike I think that's because they are replicating success. Hyundai makes a top of the line model that looks like the S Class MB - not very subtle. ;-)
Not sure what Ferrari is doing design-wise - but the 360 was a fresh look when it initially came out. I thought the 550 was a "design child" of the 365 Daytona.. A perfect successor to the Daytona IMO --
And on a completely different subject:I assume Ferrari buyers must pay a Gas Guzzler Fine for most models. Am I also correct in assuming that doesn't really accomplish anything other than collecting some money from people buying new cars? Wealth redistribution at its best - and nothing else?
I will likely never buy a new Ferrari - probably not a used one either - especially since I became disabled -although things were looking good for putting a red car in my garage until the disease changed things - but it irritates me no end to think of the govt mandating a gas guzzler tax - just to move money from Ferrari (and other car's) buyers - even though it's a tax *I* won't have to pay. I just cannot understand the *glee* some feel when talking about "sticking it to" the people paying that kind of fee!
What has happened to people? Seeing others suffer (in a sense) ? Is that a new sport?

Green recounts a recent conversation with Luca di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari. "He said the styling was dictated by aerodynamics and the need to keep a Ferrari glued to the road at 180-plus," If that's the case, then any car as ugly as the Enzo should have much higher levels of performance than it does. I think there should be a division of styling at Ferrari. 95% of owners never go anywhere near the cars limits, so the trade off of ugly for performance is a waste. I think they should divide their models into 2 groups, the really ugly ones with hyper performance for the guys who are interest in track work, and GT cars, which would focus on beauty. For the odd time a GT car is run really fast, or flat out, it's almost always in a straight line on the highway anyway. Sure, it's nice to have stability at 180 in a straight line too, but for the few times it happens, do what everyone did up until a few years ago; when you feel the front wheels life off the ground, back off a tad. :-) If you have to trade off all those potential great looks, for added down force cos you might get caught out at 180, then you're probably in over you head anyway, have no right swimming in the deep end of the pool. hee hee Just my thoughts from a guy who drives a car with a wiggly back end. :-) Ed 911SC 2008/11/11 <red5hilser [at] aol.com>

Most of everything new is plain ugly...only the Astons and maybe the shape of the Murci are "attractive". The 430? No thanks. The 612 and 599 are atrocious. The 997 TT? What is that thing? The new M3? Looks like a fat chick I dated for 3 days in 1992. The M6 looks like her mother. The Skyline GTR is one of the ugliest "sporty" cars I've seen in a long time. While at the Ferrari dealership recently, there was a 430 Scuderia parked next to a 365 GTC/4. While the Scuderia was being mobbed by 14 yr olds, I pulled my pants down and attempted to mount the Azzuro California C4 with polished Borranis. It's definitely not a case of the "good old days"...as I wasn't even born when the C4 came out. NYT article (sans pictures), for those who might be interested. November 10, 2008, 3:37 pmAre Ferraris Losing Their Good Looks?By Richard Chang Gavin Green of Car magazine in Britain raised an issue I've thought about quite a bit lately: that Ferraris "aren't gorgeous anymore."Mr. Green took issue with the fat rear end of the new California model, but didn't stop there. "The 612 is fussy and ill-proportioned," he said. "The Enzo is more bug than bird. Even the F430 lacks the visual grace and profile poetry of the old F355, the last lovely Ferrari."Mr. Green points to its recent Formula One drivers, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen, both staid individuals, and asks: Has Ferrari lost that innate Italian coolness?More likely, it has to do with aerodynamics. And Mr. Green recounts a recent conversation with Luca di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari. "He said the styling was dictated by aerodynamics and the need to keep a Ferrari glued to the road at 180-plus," Mr. Green writes. "That's why the Enzo is all wedge and scoops and slats and chunky lines. That big fat rump of the California — more bustle bum than bikini bottom — helps aero performance, or so Luca says."It hasn't helped that a whole slew of beautiful vintage Ferraris were on the auction block this year, including Steve McQueen's 1963 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso and this 1961 250 California Spyder once owned by James Coburn:They don't design them like the 1961 Ferrari 250 California Spyder anymore.______________________________________________________ __________To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, > please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/edw f430%40att.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.comand F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/ ______________________________________________________________ ___To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/las hdeep%40yahoo.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/ ______________________________________________________________ ___To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/rol indsay%40yahoo.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/__________________________ ______________________________________To unsubscribe or modify > your ubscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/rol indsay%40yahoo.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/__________________________ ______________________________________To unsubscribe or modify > your ubscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/las hdeep%40yahoo.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/ ______________________________________________________________ ___To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/gra hame%40reinthal.com.au Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/ _________________________________________________________________ o unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: ttp://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/red5hilser%40aol.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com nd F1 Headlines ttp://www.F1Headlines.com/ _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/pokiebaron%40gmail.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
