3 hours seems a bit steep. The few I've spoken to about this say it
takes them less than 30 minutes to do both banks. This is assuming that
the covers are off to check/adjust the clearances, which they should be
for all V8s other than 355/360 (and 430 too I suppose...)
With as little as 4 degrees having a significant impact on performance, I don't really understand how eyeballing a set of marks so close to the axis of rotation can be accurate enough. On a 308/328 done in-car, the front bank would be very difficult to get a good line of sight to do it even half accurately.
I better be careful what I say, as this could reignite the whole belt-swap vs "proper" service argument. I don't want to go and do that now do I.... Let's just say that since I do the servicing on my car ( Mondial t) myself, I don't have to worry about labor $. I choose to do the job "properly".

My car is currently in for a belt change. The mechanic ask me if I wanted him to degree the cams and make a reference mark for future use. He said that there wasn't anything of "real use" on the cams in the early years. He's charging me an extra 3 hours for this. Hans. Basically you need to degree your cams to check for accuracy if you feel they are off. There are some great threads written about this process. The general concensus is that the marks are 'reference only' marks and should not be trusted until verified. If so, was it because they weren't the original heads or cams, or was it just a factory stuff up? _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/jimshadow%40verizon.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/ Sent from my BlackBerry(R) smartphone with SprintSpeed _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/flist%40hanshansen.org Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/_________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/david%40davidthursby.comSponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/
