Your marks may have been added at some point.  There are some marks
in the raw forging itself, but you are lucky if they are accurate.  The
issue on mine is that there are no *external* marks - the cam covers
have to be pulled to check cam timing.  The mechanic is marking the
cams so we don't have to remove the cam covers in the future.  Altho
I can't figure out why any of this has to be done if the sprockets are
checked and properly installed once.

He's also doing the factory bulletin from a few decades ago regarding
the plug in the end of the cam so that full oil pressure isn't pushing
on the distributor shaft O-ring.  Many cars get away without this mod,
but my distributor has seeped oil since the car was new.  (I'm second
owner and I've kept in touch with the original buyer to get filled in
on tidbits of the car's history.)
