Hans,

the 328 does have exterior marks, but they are for reference only. There is
a mark on the outside of the cam with a metallic pointer attached to the cam
cover bolts, but you can't use then accurately to set the timing. I'm quite
sure just the parallax error would easily be 4 degrees !!
