BMW Coolant is indeed a good choice. I even use it in my Kubota Tractor. As far as "mixing" grades of oil, I'd defer to a real (oil) expert, but it doesn't seem like a wise idea to me. Pick a good synthetic oil and run with it. BMW uses 10w60 Castrol RS or Castrol TWS on their M Cars. Between $10 and $16 per liter depending on where you buy it. It's designed for high heat and high RPMs. BMW Part # 07 51 0 009 420 Michael James wrote: > My mechanic swears-by BMW antifreeze (at $60/gallon), being the proper > formulation for all-aluminum engines - he hates Prestone or other > off-the-shelf products as never having done their homework for all-aluminum > blocks, and what they need....not sure his feelings about running pure > water/water-wetter in there, but we'll have to discuss that much-later down > the road.... > > M > > --- On Mon, 11/30/09, Ken Rentiers <rentiers [at] me.com> wrote: > > > From: Ken Rentiers <rentiers [at] me.com> > Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Engine Rebuild III > To: "Michael James" <cavallino_rapante [at] yahoo.com> > Cc: "ken rentiers" <rentiers [at] mail.com>, "The FerrariList" <ferrari [at] > ferrarilist.com> > Date: Monday, November 30, 2009, 11:23 AM > > > Michael something that helps there is to fill the cooling system with just > water - a much more efficient heat transfer medium than the typical 50-50 > winter mix.
