Make sure you check the coolant passages in the block and heads for porosity. That massive mineral deposit came from somewhere.

Massive build-up of mineral deposits and corrosion in my engine led to its overheating issues - the corrosion and deposits impeded the coolant flow to the heads and block. It is possible that a PO filled the coolant system with pure water and then parked the car for years.....allowing the water to do its damage. M

Danger, danger Will Robinson! Using pure water for coolant will
    lead to
cooling system corrosion. The organic acids additive package in
antifreeze provide a degree of corrosion protection and water pump
    seal
lubrication. If a car with a healthy engine and cooling system
overheats during normal operation then the radiator capacity
    and/or its
air flow needs to be increased. There a good ways to accomplish that
using custom bits, and they're cheap by Ferrari price standards.
