it was never banned at the time. they gave up on it because Goodyear wouldn't 
develop the tyres further.

the 6 wheeler that was banned, before it even raced, was the Williams FW07D 
which had 4 driven wheels at the back. This was in 1982, 6 years after the 
Tyrrell. Initially only 4 wheel drive was banned before eventually cars were 
limited to 4 wheels.

Even Ferrari had a go at a 6 wheeler , but with 4 rear wheels on the one rear 
axle, the 312T6 in 1977.
