Can I ask why the 599 isn't deserving of the GTO moniker?
 
That might be the best sounding car I've ever heard, at least in the modern era -- better than F50, Enzo and F12 which are all excellent (and better than any Lambo as well, Carrera GT, Ford GT also all outstanding). If you ever wanted to demonstrate the Ferrari "panache", this car's exhaust note would be how you did it.
 
Nice updated looks to make the 599 an aggressive looking but still refined GT. Dominant performance both power and handling. I'm completely overlooking the semi-auto transmission which is always somewhat of a hangup for me.
 
It's one helluva machine, and I like it more lb for lb more than the Enzo.
 
And speaking of Enzo, he himself said the corporate goal of Ferrari S.p.A. regarding the GTO was simply to slap people around, and in all 3 iterations I'd say he has succeeded.

I'd disagree...  When LdM took over, the current car in the pipeline was the 348... and no offense to their owners but they were pretty poor in both function and build quality.  I'd say the cars that came after LdM were a lot better with every iteration.   The 355, 360 lineage up to the 458 are pretty solid cars who only suffer from trying to be too advanced for their own good.  Same for the 550, 575 and up on that side.   Now if you stray away into those cars that were developed to satisfy the FaceBook generation (read FF), yeah there has been a slide.   I'd like to see Ferrari cut back on the product line diversity and make a few cars that are just dependable weapons!!

I purposely left out the Super/Hyper cars.  I believe they stand on their own merit.  I just think they need to fire the marketing folks who name them.  I mean, seriously.... if I owned a LaFerrari I'd cut the "La" off and patch the hole.  And while I'm spewing opinions, the last GTO didn't deserve the moniker either.   But what do I know... I just told everyone I have a brain injury!  <grin>

Ferrari can only get worse...it has been pretty bad since LdM took over.

Passion Marques are always best under their namesake or founder. The first buyout after usually leaves a generation of virtuous models due to leftover design and technology. They models after that leftover generation start the bad slide...

Who else wonders about what the future holds for Ferrari?  Not just because LdM has left, but also because of the Fiat/Chrysler merger.  Does anyone else think that F/C will destroy the Ferrari name/legacy?  Or does *everyone* else think that?

Jaguar also had a decade or two of floundering when its founder died in the 80's, but lately seems to be making a pretty strong comeback (if you haven't driven the new F-Type, you should - even if I could afford a new Ferrari, I might actually opt for the new F-Type R Coupe - it's a rocket ship!).

Thinking aloud here is all.....
