First street car that comes to mind for me,
named for total engine displacement + cylinders, is
the 206 Dino GT. 2.0 -liter engine, 6 cylinder.
Followed by the 246, 308, 512, 328,
etc..

Always have. They bounce around on car names all the time, starting I
think when they switched from the "cc per cylinder" convention to "liters
and number of cylinders" for the 512BB.
The quirkiness is part of the charm!

I test my case. I've decided that Ferrari, as a company, has
ADD.
For the new turbo GTB, Ferrari
went back to it's displacement per
cylinder designation. Like the 250, 275, 330,
etc...
488cc x 8 = 3,904
cc. (The engine is actual 3,902 cc)
Since the new car is replacing
the 458 Italia (4.5 liter), I sure they wanted to use a larger
number designation for marketing, rather than a smaller one (398
GTB)

I must be missing something. I thought it
was 4.8L, 8 cyl.
Same with 458. I thought it was 4.5L, 8
cyl. I never really checked. I took it for granted that's what it was.
Like the 308, 328, 348, etc.
So, why 458 and 488 ?
