I found when I owned a diesel Smart car (Canadian market only) as a daily driver, it came with paddles and a console shifter. I used both, but just naturally used the console shifter more. Terrible transmission though. No, horrible transmission. Not as bad as the gas version Smart cars (those are horrendous!). I'm glad I got rid of it, but miss the average 60 MPG ;) (driving a Fiat 500 now).
I drove a California in 2009 and loved the dual-clutch. Because of the Smart car, I found I was reaching a couple of times a phantom shifter! I think it would take some time to get used to paddles only. In the auto mode, shifts were imperceptible... I drove the FCA 50th anniversary 599 and liked the shifting quality, but ever so slight difference between that single-clutch, and the DCT California. I've driven both a 911 and a Cayman PDK. Did NOT like the PDK in the 911 in auto mode (did not want to stay in gear for any length of time. Continually hunted between 3rd and 4th), but in the Cayman, it shifted beautifully and held a gear over a wide range of RPM in full auto mode. Go figure. Made me think if that motion as opposed to steering wheel paddles could make the experience feel more connected?. I know one wouldn't drive this way, but if you treated that PDK like it was a sequential manual with lift offs, it would probably feel the same way driving it! Just an observation. I prefer it over paddles, and my gut is rarely wrong with this stuff. What do you guys think? FG ps - I see the paddles still exist. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/dino308gt4%40hotmail.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/ |
