Hi Doug,
Reminds me of a shaggy dog story my dad used to tell about a man who tends
to a wounded elephant in Africa and many years later he's in the front row
of a circus and the elephants are walking around in a circle with trunks
holding the tail of the elephant in front. One suddenly breaks the circle
and walks right up to this man and gently puts its trunk around his
neck... and then breaks it! It was a different elephant! Sorry, warned you
it was a shaggy dog story.

Yep - and as in the fellow who tells about the frozen viper picked up out
of the snow by a compassionate man and when the snake thaws out - the
snake bites his host to teach him a lesson that evil can't be tamed by
kindness.
Or something like that.  Similar to Aesop's fable but with Aesop the nice
guy gets bit and dies.  Period.
