Yep, I'll reinforce Hans' input.  I can text with my daughter across OS platforms.   But being an iPhone user, I prefer iPhone to iPhone with iMessage because it's a) encrypted b)works where there is internet access but no cell access... which is important in the mountains where I live.   Most folks have internet in their homes but about half have no cell access.
