Oh, those many years ago when I went to get the plate for the Ferrari, I wanted "TIFOSI".
Nope, can't have it, already used.  But my good friend who managed that branch of the DMV was at work that day, so I wandered into her office and asked her if it was still a valid registration, could I research it... maybe find out if it was an unregistered vehicle?  Talk the owner into releasing it...?

Nope, it was valid and had recently been moved to another car, of the same make.  Damn.  Well someone got a new Ferrari, right!
Owner:   David Letterman
Car:   BMW

What the F@@K?   on a Bimmer??   Dave, really?

So with 7 digits I got "4TIFOSI"

And we all know who has "Tiffosi".

Who knows what it's on now... but if you are tooling around the LA area and see a car with the TIFOSI plate, it's probably Letterman.

Clever.

1982, Kalifornia now allows up to seven digits.  The most requested plate?  PORSCHE.

Lottery held and a 20 something fellow a (gulp) Toyota truck owner won it.  “well, one of these days I’ll get a Porsche.”

Last time I saw the plate it was on a 1960’s 356 silver Porsche Carrera 2.  Four cam engine took over 100 hours to put together.
