In the 1990's when Terri and I got our 1978 308GTS, I made it a point to find the parts manual and the workshop manual.

I eventually collected every parts manual there was from 75 onward - up to the last paper manual - a 5# yellow 4 ring binder for the 2001 360challenge. I still have extras but they are collectors items still in factory plastic. Some 355s and so forth.

Alas, the 308gt4 WS manual was cute but no help to me, an occasional week end do it yourselfer. BUT the parts manual was great. Very nice drawings of all the parts and where they went. Grays Anatomy of our car.

Then I ran into others 308 owners with my original problem - have the car - don't have a parts book. So I set off copying just the picture plates - the description of parts was worthless - all in Italian and a "screw" was the same for the thing that held the clock in or bolted the head onto the block.

Yes, I was scared to death of the phone call in night from Italian speaking attorneys from New Jersey but was never bothered by one tho many people stated get ready. Then along came the CD and the paper business was not needed.

I don't make them anymore I still have a box of some copies that I sell for postage only - just to help out the poor soul who has the car and needs to figure out what goes where or order parts. The CD is great but hard to fold up and take with you. heh heh

Onward,
DOUG

Hi Michel,
Unfortunately, Ferrari ownes the copywrite to these manuals and the earliest
that copywrite will expire is 70yrs from the date of creation. Thus,
Ferrari has no incentive to support unauthorized distribution of the
manuals. I doubt a financial arrangement(giving them a cut of sales) would
be meaningful to them.

Perhaps you could play to their business side, suggesting that if you make
the manuals available, owners will be more apt to work on their vehicles and
therefore purchase Ferrari NOS parts - or realize they are in over their
heads and take their Ferrari to a dealer for service(and subsequent parts
purchase).

Good luck,

I’ve been selling copies of my parts manual (1981 308 GTSi) for many years on Ebay. A few months ago, Ebay cancelled my auction. I took the word “copy” out of the title and the description. I sold them again and it worked for a few months before Ebay cancelled my auction again saying that Ferrari doesn’t allow this.

Ebay gave me a Ferrari email address in case I wanted to bring my case
to Ferrari. Now before I do that, I need some help as to what I should
write to Ferrari about that. After all, they don’t make new parts manual
for old cars anymore, they don’t sell copies neither. So, why do they
bother ?

Please help me make a strong case to Ferrari.
