Have you read Hemmings Sports & Exotics April 2008?
They compare the 914-6 to the Dino 246 GTS and even the Porshe owner would like have the Dino.

It's well known then Enzo's primary interest was always racing and his road
car program was there to pay the bills to keep the racing going. I wonder
what (if anything) Ferrari would have done differently if he'd placed more
emphasis on road cars? Perhaps designs that might appeal to more people (no
idea what that would entail) ? more options? a broader model range?


or ???

Maybe Ferrari would make more cars but they would be valued less?  Would
they have tried to make a "People's Ferrari" ala the Porsche 914?  Perhaps
as a JV with FIAT?

Just wondering and wasting time ;-)

I have a '61 250GT PF Cabriolet. (Series II of course). The car is arguably
and basically a 250 California Spider without the gill vents and a short
windshield. I see no resemblance what so ever except for maybe the hood
scoop. It would seem that the American big 3 retro designs (i.e. mustang,
challenger, camaro) received much praise and warm welcomes. Perhaps Ferrari
would view such a design move as a rehash or some sort of regression. It
would be very nice to have a small, light, hand built from exotic
materials, convertible that actually is a design study on classic Ferrari
design. It looks like the new kids in the design houses are only reflecting
on generic elements such as "it had little vents in the fenders" or "it had
a hood scoop" and not taking notice of the overall liquidity of design.
Even in the F430 nose it's NOT anything like the 1961/62 Tipo 156 Shark
Nose F1 cars at all. I think I saw all of this coming but didn't recognize
it about 20 years ago when all the younger guys began "customizing" and
lowering trucks while we were still actually turning wrenches. The passion
was fading......Someone's parents weren't doing their job passing the
torch. The answer to "What's under your hood?" changed from a conversation
of; changing out SB400 cranks for SB350's making long rod 388's and
377's/cams solid or hyd?/ Carb CFM but u hadda rejet".........to " I got
this awesome chrome stick-on engine dress up kit at Pep Boys.....look at my
neon light under the bumper..I can fit my head in my tail pipe...I got pink
plug wires and this really cool heads up display big screen TV....blah blah
blah..! Did these guys grow up to be the designers? I am becoming more
and more disappointed with all new car designs with the exception of as
Charles has so astutely pointed out, Maserati and Aston. Is there any way
we could pass around a PDF file or Word/Works file and see what we could
come up with? I mean it doesn't make us Jimmy Glick' but it might turn out
to be a pretty damn good interpretation of what Ferrari should have built
considering our vast geographic locations and differing opinions.

It's time to watch "Ferrari, Victory By Design" again.   In addition to
the
250GT Ken mentioned, the 250P, 275GTB, 330s the various 312's and the
365s,
etc. can be seen and heard.  IMO, once we went to car design by
government
edict we began to slowly move to a world of cookie cutter car design in
approx. 1968 .

Consider the 250 SWB. No character lines, no supernumerary exhaust
tips or retractible hardtop causing the trunk to look like a turtle
humped over fucking. Just pure sweet simple unadorned 100% pur sang
car. How hard can it be to do that again?

don't think there's been a beautiful one since the 355. I think
