here is little Effie’s head

BY E. E. CUMMINGS

here is little Effie’s head
whose brains are made of gingerbread
when the judgment day comes
God will find six crumbs

stooping by the coffinlid
waiting for something to rise
as the other somethings did—
you imagine His surprise

bellowing through the general noise
Where is Effie who was dead?
—to God in a tiny voice,
i am may the first crumb said

whereupon its fellow five
crumbs chuckled as if they were alive
and number two took up the song,
might i’m called and did no wrong

cried the third crumb, i am should
and this is my little sister could
with our big brother who is would
don’t punish us for we were good;

and the last crumb with some shame
whispered unto God, my name
is must and with the others i’ve
been Effie who isn’t alive

just imagine it I say
God amid a monstrous din
watch your step and follow me
stooping by Effie’s little, in

(want a match or can you see?)
which the six subjunctive crumbs
twitch like mutilated thumbs:
picture His peering biggest whey

coloured face on which a frown
puzzles, but I know the way—
(nervously Whose eyes approve
the blessed while His ears are crammed

with the strenuous music of
the innumerable capering damned)
—staring wildly up and down
the here we are now judgment day

cross the threshold have no dread
lift the sheet back in this way.

Yes, and it's a shame. Look at the salaries professional athletes make, and what do they contribute to society or the common weal in general? I know, I
know. Money talks, B.S. walks, etc. All granted, but theoretically,
teachers, ministers, etc. should make a lot more than they do because, one could argue (and I suppose for the moment I am) that they contribute more to people and their condition in general than (name a pro athlete.) But, then again, if it's market/money driven, things seem to end up as they "normally"
do.
Maybe we could get FedGovCo to realign the "value" of various occupations
and mandate minimum payscales?

All stop! Whatever the merits of pilots and pizza drivers, the market
will price jobs correctly. Consider the alternative! Do you want
Rangel or Waxman pontificating on what your salary should be? Sadly,
there appears to be a surfeit of capable Canadair 200 pilots around,
meanwhile no one wants to stay up all night in the convenience store
and risk getting their ass shot off.

If Hanna Montana can sell out a stadium at $50 - $100 a seat netting
the promoter several million, then she is not out of line asking for a
sizeable chunk of same. Paris HIlton made $7,000,000 a year ago by
showing up at parties for $100,000 a pop and selling her sex tapes on
the net. She is acting rationally, it is society that has it's values
screwed up.

Before we start passing judgement on compensation we must first answer
the eternal question: is that Ferrari really worth that much? If
someone pays retail for it the question is answered.

what Com Air pays its pilots of it's 50 seat jets.( see link below)
7-11's in my area pay more to their HS dropouts that can't count

It takes a lot more skill and training to be a surgeon than a
flight attendant though. And surgeons are usually saving the life
of someone who is definitely dying, and they do it daily. Most
flight attendants may not have an experience like the one in NY in
their entire careers. Plus, not just anyone can be a surgeon!

Quite true. I dated a flight attendant for a few years and the
amount of
training they get for this is way beyond what most people understand. Couple that with the crap they have to put up with from passengers who
still think of them as air-waitresses and it makes it all the more
impressive that they can do what this crew did.

   ==================

Even worse is how bad flight attendant pay ( and even pilot pay as of
recent ) is in comparison to their responsibilities. If a
Anesthesiologist
making $ 300k screws up in the OR, the worst thing that can happen
is one
person dies. If a flight crew member screws up , hundreds of people
could
die. Who really deserves the $ 300,000 salaries more?
