All,

I guess i missed this but since when did Clyde start typing so perfectly? :-)

Plus Ferrari had many non 12 cylinder race cars that were very successful and many years before any V8 production car.

I am not saying its a bad thing but when the "M" gang goal was to sell 5K cars a year

Most guus even those with deep pockets stayed away from Ferrari because they thought they were not reliable
Hence Ferrari did that around the world tour with a car !
Remember that?
Well that fixed that alright and" here come the clowns" as Frank Sinatra would say!

Sorry to say Phil but none of those names mean anything to most listers
They are too young!
And that's ok too
Most bought the car because they could end of story!
They don't have a clue about the past they live for today or better yet tomorrow! They have no knowledge of the Cobra Ferrari wars of the 60's they weren't born!
Or the LeMans Battles with Ford in the late 60's as well.
They couldn't pick out John Surtees helmet from a Phil Hills helmet

Can't hold it against them Phil they don't know and don't want to know!
They just want it red and cute and different aka the GM Fiero!

They don't know that Ferrari means 12cylinders and that they only made the 8 cylinder cars to sell to the masses

Phil we must get together this summer when I am in Philly

OK, break out the flame throwers, but, I am not quite certain that
owning a Ferrari today means the same thing to many of the owners as
it did even 5 to 10 years ago....
At one time it was a goal, a goal that few ever anticipated
accomplishing, the enthusiasts were consumed with owning a Ferrari now
I fear that many are only consumed with consuming and owning....how
many people (owners / enthusiasts ) know the serial number of their
car? How many can actually recite much of the history of the car or
know what the history of the drivers were who was Phil Hill or
Grahm Hill or the Rodriguez bros.....and don't even think about the
truly incredible men who raced these cars in the 40's and 50's.....or
  about Ferraris efforts at Indy........

  Where is the passion?

I've thought about that too. Ferrari owners are by definition
unique. And unique isn't allowed in a socialist system. Hummm...

I used to think that most people here on this NG already owned a
Ferrari or
were inspired to own one in the future and were likely saving up
for the big
day when they could take possession of one. I didn't realize
that there
would be so many who would rather give more of their income to
the BO ,so he
can redistribute it to whatever group of people that BO
desires, instead of
them keeping as much of their hard earned money as they can. I
don't see
how BO's confiscation of more of their income would help them
get to own a
Ferrari any faster. But then maybe it's just me being selfish
for not
wanting to buy any more illegal aliens their free helath care.

I hate to say it, but thinking that BO was going to take it I
had already
started working out moving our operation off shore. So,
his tax increase
will likely see my taxes drop by 10's of K per year. Yeah-
that increase
will pan our really well for him.

And it is not a matter of being selfish, as most of the have-
nots seem to
think. Most of them are the will-nots, which is why they
are have-nots.
I have no problem helping those that are can-nots- they
absolutely need
the help. I also have no problem in helping to supply a
safety net for
those that unexpectedly, and through no fault of their own,
fall on hard
times. But that latter group will also be in need short-
term, and not
decide to live off of the social system. Unfortunately,
the Democrats are
generally socialist minded individuals, and our current Pres I
would have
to say has at least one foot into communism. Just how
much private
business is our government taking over now?

Incidentally, I too have lived in two systems. Socialism
simply does not
work, and for the reasons previously stated. It is great
in theory, but
falls apart when you bring the human element into it. I
say open the
border to the north, give people the choice of socialism or
capitalism
(heck, the capitalist side can even pay to move the socialists
north), and
then lock the border up tight. Lets see who makes it
through the year.

(getting down off the soap box and waiting to see who is up next)

Hello Friends,
We are obviously of mixed minds
here. Discussions like this are often contested
between the "haves" and the "have-nots". I'm not sure
that's the case here in FList land. Most of us 'have'
to some degree. Hummm...

I think it just comes down to the fact
that those of us who went to school for a zillion years,
have worked hard all of our lives at good jobs, paid our
bills, paid our taxes, have a little coin tucked away and
have no debt - are being told that we don't deserve anything
that we have and that we need to redistribute it to the
people who did NOT study, work, pay bills, pay taxes and
save - just so that we can all be equals at some low,
marginally acceptable level. That just does not work
for me. One doesn't get from life what one
deserves. One gets what one works for. (Please
pardon the preposition at the end of the sentence.)

  I know I'm a hard-ass when it comes to
this but I've seen both sides. I grew up poor,
descended from an even poorer Scottish family. I have
relatives who do NOTHING but whine - at least when their
Oxycontin starts to wear off - and they get more government
money than any of us - for doing absolutely NOTHING.
They're ignorant and proud of it, living a lifestyle of "Why
work if I can get government money for free?" That
attitude is why communism and socialism does not work.
I've lived in Russia and have seen it first hand. I
don't care if Tim Geitner says, "Soon we won't care how much
money we earn. We'll care about how we live."
That's just naive (and/or more likely, intended for ears
other than ours). Hummm...

  Socialism feels very "moral high-ground"
in concept but it fails because it is counter to basic
evolutionary forces. Life wants to survive and
replicate, even if at the expense of others. We want
to win the race/game/contest even though someone else has to
loose. Its how life works. Just look at what
people watch on network TV! We have to compete and we
like to win! Winning upsets the balance that socialism
tries to establish.

The system being forced upon us now is
counter to all of that. Its like saying that all the
F1 teams can compete but no one is allowed to win.
They must all be equals. Someone should take all of
Toyota, Ferrari and McLaren's money and give it to Force
India so that all of the teams will be equals. This
concept violates the Great Truth of the Universe Rule #14:
"No two anythings were ever created equal." That
includes us, brothers.

rick (That's rick with a small "r", not the other Rick with
the big "R")
