The real reason most aircraft parts are safety wired on through the bolt heads or cotter pinned through the nuts is not that the safety wire does anything (if the bolts are not torqued properly, they'll be destroyed regardless of any safety wire), but rather that it reminds you that you remembered to tighten that bolt/nut. allan
