Ferrari went to belts (as per Ferrari) as they were more accurate, chains actually stretch, and they were quieter, and to provide long term financial health to their service departments!  HA. 
Thats why I need another Ferrari so i can learn how to stretch those chains back!

Very true.  But even Ferrari has gone back to timing chains (I believe - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).  But I *KNOW* that my 2010 VW has a timing chain.  Although my soon-to-be 2013 VW will have a belt (but it's a diesel, if that makes a difference - lower revving, so probably...).
 
I don't believe there is any one "right" answer.
 
FWIW.  YMMV.  etc etc etc....
