I wasn't beating my chest about "5 series is better". Just it has the
same engine as a 740 does. I was just trying to point out that the
750 may be a creamier ride but it is not necessarily a lot faster
than a 740. I had a 1990 750, purchased new. I ended up selling it
with only 12,000 miles on it after 8 months because it was BORING. (I
counted the other day, I have serially owned over 50 cars for
personal use, not counting those for sundry wives, and rug rats - I
am an absolutely promiscuous car slut).
Why spend a bucket money trying to hot-rod a car purpose built as a semi-limo? 750s are turbine smooth, and will roll all day at ear bleeding speeds without effort, but they ain't hot rods. A far better and more focused alternative (and probably cheaper because ALL the parts would be stressed for high performance apps) would be to pick from the following list:
I mean, look at the drive-train on an M6, the brakes, the suspension parts, etc. are all beefed up as are much of the internal workings of the engine. Perhaps BMW will stuff a V10 in the 7 series shell like Audi has done.
Many are I waiting for Jim Conforti to come out with software for the 4.4L V8. I have no personal knowledge, but I believe one reason this has not happened to date is that that V8 engine is already tweaked to near-max performance at the factory. Dinan has an S1 kit, but the software requires better breathing and a freeflow exhaust as part of the package. Even then, the power gains are miniscule. The only ways to extract significant HP increases from the 4. 4L V8 that I am aware of are to put more oxygen/time through by:
Of course, the Liu Effect applies to all the above remarks. I could be completely wrong...

Have you seen the cost of the diff versus the filter? LOL
OK be that way. Use a K&N oil-soaked filter. MAF screws up, car runs rich, cats go south. Now how much does it cost? LOL
If you are worried about MPG, one shouldn't be driving a luxury make.
I don't give a rat's ass about MPG, just passing along a factoid.
