Yeah Larry - quite a bit of power - on TAP, so to
speak.
At the time, in the 80's, there was a race to race
magazine printed in the UK I believe simply titled Formula One.
Immense coverage of just one race. Tons of color pictures. As the
teams got smarter and bolder they started to water cool the intercooler by
spraying water externally on the radiator.
So picture this. In one issue there
is a photo display of the qualifying car set ups. On the BMW engined
cars - there was a display of pictures showing the external little pipe
with drillings to spray water on the intercooler - - - no, wait there are TWO
little pipes. one under the other - wot th? Where did that other pipe
lead to? To the halon fire extinguisher bottle ??? WHY Halon?
The Turbo air intake is just behind the intercooler radiator - - - -
ohhHHHHHhhoooooo. THAT'S NOT HAYLON IN THAT BOTTLE - - - -
it's NO2!!! ?? Before anyone could really really check it out - the
second pipe disappeared. What pipes? You nuts? Here - look for
your self.
heh heh

BMW F-1 had the famous "Grenade"
qualifying engines back in the 80's - good for 3-5 laps then Kaboom!
Its still hard for me to comprehend so much
power from something with the volume of a 2L Coke bottle!

Ah hah - right on Ed. Ergo
supercharging. Our little twin turbocharged V-6 TAG Turbo F1 engine -
all 1500 cc's of it, allegedly put out 1100 hp at about 12,000 rpm. To
hold this bomb together the engine block has the standard 8 long studs that go
through the head BUT the heads ALSO have 6 studs each that go though the
block! Also, each intake and exhaust port has 4 studs each to hold
the each intake and exhaust manifolds to the head. THen the bottom
end is held together with a separate casting which looks like a sump - but its
the girdle for the mains and there are about 18 - 8 mm studs for that.
Ayep - tight tight tight.

More air really is the tricky bit with motors, isn't
it. The other bits, more fuel, better spark, etc are easy peasy by
comparison. Mind you, once you get enough air into the motor, keeping
the heads on, and not blowing the bottom out of the case provide their own
challenges too. hee hee

that much to get more HP.
I dunno, I could be wrong.

here are the before dyno
results
100% stock
211.0 RWHP, 185.8 ft/lbs peak with STOCK EXHAUST AND
CATS
so a 25% increase should
yield 263.7 RWHP 232.2 ft/lbs peak
I would be very happy with this.

Yes, I'd love to see that, too.
But having said
that, 270HP * 1,25 = 337,5HP That's about the power of a 348 GTB
(320HP) , and that car costs about the same as a 328
...

That would be amazing...please keep us updated on this
project. I'd love to see before and after dyno
numbers.
Thanks, LS
