Has the temperature risen only recently, or has this been the case since this "new" engine has been installed in the car? In other words, when the engine was replaced it ran normal afterwards, but now, all of a sudden, the temp has risen.
What about fluctuation on the gauge? My GT4 would vary a lot, regardless of the seasons. I went through the cooling system, replacing the pump (now: big bearing factory 328/F40 style - beware cheap Chinese aftermarket sand-cast big bearing pumps!), the thermostat (OEM $$$, original appeared to be a Canadian Tire variety!), new rad fans (OEM Lucas) and had the radiator core replaced (heavy duty, four-row copper core). Now, when it comes up to temp it stays absolutely rock steady, regardless of the seasons (winter, spring summer or fall - same temp no matter what the outside temp) and the needle rests slightly lower than it did before. I can't attribute which "repair" did the "trick", but certainly the OEM 'stat works better in the housing, sealing off properly to recirculate the coolant when needed and the recore certainly dropped the temp a bit because of the lack of calcium deposit (even though I regularly change and flush the coolant out, there's still buildup that occurs).
