Do not listen to gun store "hacks". Carry the gun as it was intended or get another gun. It should in almost all cases be carried cocked and locked. It would actually be more dangerous in some situations to carry it any other way. For example; Carrying with a empty chamber and having to rack it first, will slow you down on your draw, even more so, if your opposite hand is not free to rack the slide and you have to use your rear sight on your belt in order to rack it. Worse would be to carry it with a loaded chamber and hammer down. Just to get it in this state scares the ba-jeebas out of me, let alone the risk when then required to cock it if you need to fire. Don't worry about what a prosecutor may do. You can defend cocked and locked carry quite easily in court, and there are many experts that can testify in your defense if necessary. Have prosecutors used "cocked and locked" carry as some sort of "test" to your predisposition of getting into an armed encounter? Perhaps, but usually this is a case when it was a bad shooting, and not legally justified use of lethal force. Prosecutors are rarely out to get honest, law abiding citizens. -----Original Message----- From: LarryT [mailto:l02turner [at] comcast.net] Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 4:08 PM To: dave [at] davehanda.com Cc: dave.craig [at] sbcglobal.net; ferrari [at] ferrarilist.com Subject: Re: [Ferrari] NFC, Looking for some Gun advice. Hi All, While we're talking about guns, I have another question. I was talking to a gunstore salesman about carrying my M1911Colt .45 in the full cocked position. It's actually the way it's designed since it has 3 safeties. Anyway, the salesman said some prosecutors think it's an aggressive stance to have a gun in full cock like you're the bad guy in a confrontation. Has anyone ever heard about something like this? I don't normally carry the Colt.45 as it's a little on the large side and the concealed part of "concealed carry" becomes difficult. But I'm curious - BTW, I carry a Taurus PT111 9mm. For those wanting to spend $350-$450 you should consider Taurus - they have a lot of models for different situations -- TIA --- Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Martin Stark" <MStark [at] Copper.net> To: "Larry Turner" <l02turner [at] comcast.net> Cc: <dave.craig [at] sbcglobal.net>; <ferrari [at] ferrarilist.com> Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 6:50 PM Subject: Re: [Ferrari] NFC, Looking for some Gun advice. > It is not for nothing (is that a double negative?) that .45 ACP > doublestack pistols are referred to as having "12 rounds of .45 goodness." > > Dave Handa wrote: > >>Quote below from Dr. Steve: >> >>"For most folks, as a practical matter, virtually any high quality, >>smaller >> >>dimension pistol will do, even a .32acp Walther PPK (no derogation of that >>gun intended, simply mentioned as an example of a small calibre pistol)" >> >>>From a "practical matter" meaning if you never need it.
