That's why the P7M8 is so appealing. Safe and confident in Condition One and has the same SA trigger behavior at all times. Too bad the 40 (P7M10) is so unwieldy (and ugly).

Do not listen to gun store "hacks". Carry the gun as it was intended or get

It would actually be more dangerous in some situations to carry it any other
way.

For example; Carrying with a empty chamber and having to rack it first, will
slow you down on your draw, even more so, if your opposite hand is not free
to rack the slide and you have to use your rear sight on your belt in order
to rack it.
Worse would be to carry it with a loaded chamber and hammer down. Just to
get it in this state scares the ba-jeebas out of me, let alone the risk when
then required to cock it if you need to fire.

Don't worry about what a prosecutor may do. You can defend cocked and
locked carry quite easily in court, and there are many experts that can
testify in your defense if necessary.

Have prosecutors used "cocked and locked" carry as some sort of "test" to
your predisposition of getting into an armed encounter? Perhaps, but
usually this is a case when it was a bad shooting, and not legally justified
use of lethal force. Prosecutors are rarely out to get honest, law abiding
citizens.

Hi All,
While we're talking about guns, I have another question. I was talking to a gunstore salesman about carrying my M1911Colt .45 in the full cocked position. It's actually the way it's designed since it has 3 safeties. Anyway, the salesman said some prosecutors think it's an aggressive stance to have a gun in full cock like you're the bad guy in a confrontation.

Has anyone ever heard about something like this? I don't normally carry the Colt.45 as it's a little on the large side and the concealed part of "concealed carry" becomes difficult. But I'm curious - BTW, I carry a Taurus PT111 9mm. For those wanting to spend $350-$450 you should consider Taurus - they have a lot of models for different situations --

TIA ---

It is not for nothing (is that a double negative?) that .45 ACP
doublestack pistols are referred to as having "12 rounds of .45 goodness."

Quote below from Dr. Steve:

"For most folks, as a practical matter, virtually any high quality, smaller

dimension pistol will do, even a .32acp Walther PPK (no derogation of that
gun intended, simply mentioned as an example of a small calibre pistol)"

From a "practical matter" meaning if you never need it. We all know that
any firearm can be lethal, but we also know that small caliber handguns can
be very ineffective, particularly against a determined opponent. Also, many
smaller dimension pistols can be more of a challenge to hold and shoot
accurately, and just as importantly, difficult to manipulate the slide in
the event of a stoppage.

Example: I purchased a Kahr Arms, PM9 a very small, thin, 9mm pistol. It has
terrific inherent accuracy, but it's practical accuracy (at least for my
abilities) is less so, because of its tiny dimensions. It is just very hard
to get a good firing grip on.

There are three distinct sizes of handguns out there. Full size (or duty)
type handguns, compacts and the sub compact (which the 32acp typically falls
in). We have found in our classes, that students (private citizen or LE) can
shoot, manipulate and keep their gun running, when the gun is either of the
full size or compact size. The sub compacts just have too small of
controls, and too small slides to be manipulated effectively.

If one feels the need to carry a handgun for defense, then it should be of
the largest caliber they can carry and use effectively. Generally, the
minimum recommendation is a .380 auto or 38 special in revolver. Now I
certainly agree that most do not need a 44 magnum revolver or a 45 win mag
semi-auto either, but recommending a 32 auto is contraindicated as well for
a general recommendation. Sure, having any handgun is better than none, but
I would recommend that if one has reason enough to carry, to carry a more
effective caliber.
