Hi All,
While we're talking about guns, I have another question. I was talking to a gunstore salesman about carrying my M1911Colt .45 in the full cocked position. It's actually the way it's designed since it has 3 safeties. Anyway, the salesman said some prosecutors think it's an aggressive stance to have a gun in full cock like you're the bad guy in a confrontation.
Has anyone ever heard about something like this? I don't normally carry the Colt.45 as it's a little on the large side and the concealed part of "concealed carry" becomes difficult. But I'm curious - BTW, I carry a Taurus PT111 9mm. For those wanting to spend $350-$450 you should consider Taurus - they have a lot of models for different situations --

It is not for nothing (is that a double negative?) that .45 ACP doublestack pistols are referred to as having "12 rounds of .45 goodness."

"For most folks, as a practical matter, virtually any high quality, smaller
dimension pistol will do, even a .32acp Walther PPK (no derogation of that gun intended, simply mentioned as an example of a small calibre pistol)"
From a "practical matter" meaning if you never need it. We all know thatany firearm can be lethal, but we also know that small caliber handguns can
be very ineffective, particularly against a determined opponent. Also, many
smaller dimension pistols can be more of a challenge to hold and shoot
accurately, and just as importantly, difficult to manipulate the slide in
the event of a stoppage.
Example: I purchased a Kahr Arms, PM9 a very small, thin, 9mm pistol. It has
terrific inherent accuracy, but it's practical accuracy (at least for my
abilities) is less so, because of its tiny dimensions. It is just very hard
to get a good firing grip on.
There are three distinct sizes of handguns out there. Full size (or duty)
type handguns, compacts and the sub compact (which the 32acp typically falls
in). We have found in our classes, that students (private citizen or LE) can
shoot, manipulate and keep their gun running, when the gun is either of the
full size or compact size. The sub compacts just have too small of
controls, and too small slides to be manipulated effectively.
If one feels the need to carry a handgun for defense, then it should be of
the largest caliber they can carry and use effectively. Generally, the
minimum recommendation is a .380 auto or 38 special in revolver. Now I
certainly agree that most do not need a 44 magnum revolver or a 45 win mag
semi-auto either, but recommending a 32 auto is contraindicated as well for
a general recommendation. Sure, having any handgun is better than none, but
I would recommend that if one has reason enough to carry, to carry a more
effective caliber.
